I'm starting to have a bit of a tough time with this, for a few reasons.
It worries me when I feel the need to be SO connected that I spend eight hours at work on a computer, and then come home and open up my Mac. Or, worst yet, when I have my work laptop and my personal laptop open on either side of me on the couch and my iPhone in my lap. It sometimes feel like the online "me" is more important than the real me- does what I'm doing matter if it's not my Facebook and Twitter status?
I also just started reading "The Four-Hour Work Week" and it emphasizes efficiency and effectiveness by minimizing interruptions. That really hit home with me. It takes me remarkably longer to do a task when Outlook reminders and Tweetdeck notifications are popping up and my iPhone is buzzing constantly. Being constantly connected means being constantly interrupted.
I certainly appreciate technology- I honestly wonder how I would live without GPS and Google at my fingertips. But I also wonder if I would be living a more fulfilled life- one where I don't experience anxiety when I forget my phone at home, where I could concentrate on one thing at a time, where I could come home and relax instead of hopping back on my computer.
Maybe part of that is working in the high-tech industry, but I also think it's society as a whole and our generation in particular. I worry about where technology and constant connectedness is taking us.

Very well said. I couldn't agree with you more. One thing I have learned is that you cannot truly appreciate technology until you lose it for some time. Seriously, how did people in the early nineties have social lives?????
